It’s been a while…

I’m back from a summer hiatus, where things were way too busy to worry about my project. While I wasn’t posting anything new, I was listening and continued exploring medieval music and I discovered that I had the same issue as I had with ancient music: there isn’t much original work to listen to. There are original pieces in chant, and other sacred music designed for Catholic Mass and other spiritual gatherings, but I couldn’t zero in on individuals who wrote the pieces. I did listen to a lot of collections of music that offered a good taste of medieval music, but I didn’t find a decent chronology to work from. Who would’ve known that starting my journey would have been so challenging?

At any rate, I have decided to press on and begin transitioning my listening to Renaissance music where I have already begun finding names of actual composers creating music. I am starting with John Dunstaple. I have read that he is sometimes referred to as John Dunstable as well. He is credited with sacred music that dates to the beginning of the 15th century. I’ll report back soon!
